Description
After meeting our guide at the previously agreed location, you will reach an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, arriving at Rifugio Sapienza. Along the route, stops may be made to fully enjoy the beauty of the Etna landscape. The guide will introduce you to the history of the volcano and its territory, describing both ancient and recent lava flows that have shaped the slopes of Mount Etna and the Silvestri Craters.
At Rifugio Sapienza (1,920 m a.s.l.), you may choose to:
Walk along a hiking trail with the guide without exceeding 2,000 meters in altitude.
Choose the High-Altitude Etna option: with the cable car service offered by Funivia dell’Etna, you will reach 2,500 meters in about 15 minutes. From there, special 4×4 off-road vehicles will take you to the maximum permitted altitude. You will be captivated by the breathtaking panorama surrounded by the sea, where you can admire the summit area of the volcano and the impressive lava flows. With the assistance of Alpine Guides (Italian/English only), you will safely explore the areas where the volcano’s energy emerges, in full compliance with regulations. Return to Rifugio Sapienza.
The tour continues with a visit to a lava flow cave equipped with helmets and torches and concludes with a visit to one of the best wineries on Mount Etna, including a tasting of 4 glasses of local wines accompanied by cured meats, cheeses, pâtés, and locally produced oils.
